Utility services for residents went uninterrupted when a water main broke near the Spring Creek Towers on Flatlands Avenue in East New York Friday, sending water shooting five stories into the air, according to officials.
Neighbors say they heard a boom at around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection with Pennsylvania Avenue.
It took DEP workers about a half-hour to turn off the water, officials say. They also say that the break did not affect residents' water flow.
"There has been no collateral damage outside the water main break," says FDNY Chief Brad Walls. "All the utilities are in place -- no loss of services, no compromise to the electric system, no compromise to the gas distribution system."
