The Venture House clubhouse location in Flatbush is announcing a 12,000-square-foot addition on its second floor that will expand the scope of its programming for those suffering with mental health issues.
The clubhouse location offers free membership for life. Those who those who qualify can get job training, work skills, cooking, arts and media skills. Activities are designed to give those who feel alone a community to grow with.
"In the Venture Clubhouse. I found love and peace, everything that I needed in my life, and I found all of them right inside here. And I'm very thankful. I am very grateful for all of them," said club member John Glenn Quinlan.
But all those programs will be growing in scope once the new floor opens, with a full-sized commercial kitchen, gym, podcasting area and performance space. Those behind the program say the new space is a must for their goal of 450 members by 2027, with a focus on young people.
"Our young adults, they like music, dance, and it's a way to get together and have fun - this space is going to, you know, accommodate large groups, which we cannot yet do in our starter home," said Venture House CEO Juliet Douglas.
