THIS EVENING

Have a jacket this evening. It will not be cold, but a bit chilly with temperatures in the lower to middle 40s along with increasing clouds.

SHOWERS TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY

Scattered light rain showers will develop mostly after 11 p.m. Plan on a wet start to the day Wednesday with off and on light to moderate rain showers. This shouldn't slow you down much on Wednesday morning, but just be prepared for a wet start to the day. The cold air from the past couple of nights and mornings is also gone, but it will still feel chilly with overnight lows around the lower 40s.

Scattered mostly light periods of rain will persist through Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon looks drier, but a passing shower will still be possible. Highs on Wednesday will be in the lower to middle 50s.

LYRID METEOR SHOWER TONIGHT

Unfortunately, the weather locally will not be good for viewing, but this meteor shower peaks tonight into tomorrow morning. It will be mostly cloudy with showers developing after 11 p.m. If anything, maybe before 10 p.m. when some breaks in the clouds can still be around, you might be able to see a few between the clouds. You need to give your eyes around 45 minutes to adjust to the night sky. I would temper expectations locally for this one, but look northeast this evening if you are trying to view.

It cools down into the 50s for the weekend through most of next week. The normal average high temperatures this time of year on Long Island is around 61 degrees.
