The City Point Shopping Center played host Saturday to its first annual esport virtual tournament.
The Brooklyn mall partnered with YokeyPokey Virtual Reality to give participants a chance at a new type of gaming.
"We are happy to bring the new wave of media," said George Cassus, business manager of YokeyPokey. "I mean, you can play a physical sport, which is great, but you can also be inside the game and play a sport."
Participants can be of any level of expertise but must be at least 13 years old.
Leandro Catalano discovered virtual reality gaming over a year ago and says he is aiming to win the grand prize of $1,000.
"You completely forget you're in the real world and enjoy whatever you can in a complete virtual world," Catalano said.
The tournament was running through 9 p.m. Saturday.
