Visitors of Marine Park say it is too dark at night and want to see more lights installed, according to a Brooklyn Daily report.
The park stays open until 10 p.m. A Parks Department spokesperson says there are 44 lights around the park that turn on at dusk, and that the lighting is sufficient.
People who spoke with News 12 disagree, saying they cannot see what is behind trees or ahead of them as they jog or walk their dogs around the popular track. As the days get shorter, residents say they still want to be able to use their park without feeling scared.
Some women say they are on edge after a woman was killed after going for a jog in Queens in August.
City Councilman Alan Maisel says there is no money set aside for more lighting in the park. However, he does promise that next year's budget will include funding for more lights around the Carmine Carro Community Center at the edge of the park.
