Over 100 volunteers came out to beautify Floyd Bennet Field.

Residents and members of nonprofits like Wounded Nature joined together to pick up debris that washed along the shoreline of Ranger Road Beach.

People picked up wood, plastic items, pipes and tires from the coastline.

"A lot of the debris is debris that could be harmful to nature or wildlife," said Party City volunteer John Kupsch. "And this is not a public beach area, this is more of an off-the-beaten-track area where wildlife is possibly threatened."

A large amount of the debris came from previous storms that hit the borough.

Representatives from the Parks Department tell News 12 that volunteer events like these are important to keep non-commercial beaches clean because most of the funding for beach cleanup goes to commercial beaches.
