Residents who helped build a wetland garden in the Bronx got to celebrate months of hard work by taking a ride on the Bronx River.
The wetland, which is located behind ABC Carpet near the Bruckner Expressway, was restored in one of several environmental initiatives to help prevent further pollution into the river.
Several members of the group Rocking the Boat helped plant tens of thousands of plants along the shore of the river as part of the Waterwash ABC project.
The brainchild behind the project is Lillian Ball.
"Green infrastructure projects such as Waterwash allow nature to do what it is intended to do, which is buffer the land and filter both pollution coming from the land in the water and pollution coming into the land," Ball says.
