The Brooklyn Navy Yard started its virtual holiday market in the hopes to get people to support local businesses this holiday season.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard has brought together more than two dozen local businesses that offer unique products and experiences.
Metal sculptor Michelle Greene is selling two sculptures in the holiday market, as well as an offer for welding lessons. With a class limit of two people at a time, she says it's safe and an unforgettable gift.
"When you look back on your different holidays, this is not something you're going to forget," Greene says. "At the end of the class, you make a unique sculpture that you can take home and have a memento from the class."
Hip-Hop Closet is another business participating in the virtual holiday market. Owner Kyiesha Kelly started the business at the Navy Yard in 1998. She says the holiday market has been a great way to reach more people.
"It's not always easy to make that transition to creating virtual events," Kelly says. "So, it's really good to have the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a partner to create this virtual event and promote it for us and help connect with different customers."
The goal of the market is to encourage everyone to support small businesses as they try to recover from the pandemic.
