Dangerous heat peaks Wednesday, then cooler weather arrives before a wetter weekend

A heat advisory remains in effect through Wednesday evening as temperatures approach 100 degrees, with heat index values above 100. While Thursday and Friday remain warm, the next widespread chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives over the weekend.

  • In effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Afternoon heat index values will range from around 100 degrees to 102 degrees. Limit strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on those without adequate cooling.

  • High risk of rip currents – In effect through Wednesday for Atlantic-facing beaches. Dangerous surf conditions are expected, and entering the ocean is strongly discouraged.

Tonight: Mostly clear, warm and muggy with lows in the upper 70s. A southwest breeze continues with occasional gusts.

Wednesday: Sunny and dangerously hot. Highs in the upper 90s to around 100 with heat index values around 100 to 102 degrees. A light northwest breeze develops during the day.

Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy and very warm with lows in the upper 70s. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible as a weak cold front moves through.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and still hot, but not as oppressive. Highs in the lower 90s.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy with lows in the middle 70s.

Friday: Mostly sunny and warm with highs around 90.

Friday night: Partly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s.

Saturday: Partly sunny with scattered showers developing during the day and thunderstorms becoming possible during the afternoon. Highs in the middle 80s.
