A fire ripped through a two-story home in Morris Heights last night, leaving an elderly woman in critical condition and injuring two firefighters.
Officials say flames broke out on the second floor of a home on Underhill Avenue, sending Aleta Colon to the burn unit at Jacobi Medical Center.
Neighbors say the flames were so high and the smoke was so thick that they had to retreat into their homes.
As many as 65 firefighters were called to put out the fire, two of them suffering minor injuries. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
