Women from around the borough gathered in Canarsie Wednesday night to learn how to bake challah bread.
Challah is a special bread that is eaten over the Sabbath. This is in preparation for the World Shabbat Project, where families are encouraged to disconnect from technology for 25 hours and enjoy each other's company.
"Everyone, no matter where you are, should take a chance to unplug and focus on your family and be with your family," Jewish lifestyle expert Jamie Geller says. "That's what this initiative is all about. Getting everyone together around the table, turning off those phones, turn off those computers, turn off those distractions, unplug, and give your family the time they deserve."
The world Shabbat Project takes place Friday at sundown. Over 1,000 cities and 95 countries will participate in the event.
