Door people and porters at a swanky building in Midtown West are on strike.
They voted to unionize in 2022, but workers say the building has been on a campaign of hostility and they’re violating federal labor laws.
Chatham 44 is the third residential building this spring to have their workers go on strike.
32BJ SEIU says, among other things, the building has refused to bargain a labor contract with the workers, protected union activity is under surveillance, and their workload has increased without a bargaining agreement.
“Some time earlier this year, I’ve gotten a writeup for housekeeping. And I’m not a housekeeper, I’m a concierge.
There’s a lot of harassment on the job,” Chatham 44 concierge, Gregory Morris, told News 12 New York.
News 12 reached out to Chatham 44 for comment, but the property manager did not respond.
The union says it has filed the unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board.
The union says workers will continue to mobilize until their demands are met.
