The New York Yankees teamed up with a local organization to uplift brilliant Bronx students through a chess tournament.
Around 200 players from Community School District 9 and other local schools took part in the first-ever BX Invitational Chess Tournament. The event was started by Bronx organization Project Pawn, helping kids learn chess and strategically plan their future.
Only nine winners were awarded – three elementary school students, three middle school students, and three high school students.
