Over 100 of Brooklyn’s young runners got free sneakers from the New York Road Runners on Friday.
The donation is part of a wider project to give away shoes to children across the United States.
Around 4,000 New Balance sneakers arrived in New York City for the ongoing initiative to get many students to lace up for the New York Road Runners’ Frosty 5K race taking place on Saturday at 8 a.m. in Prospect Park.
"We'll be giving out over 4,500 pairs of New Balance shoes at over 300 schools in New York City,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of NY Road Runners. “It’s just a way for us to get the kids active… if you want to get active and get moving, it really helps to start with a great pair of shoes.”
