Four boys who allegedly molested a 12-year-old female student in a bathroom on their school campus appeared in court in Downtown Brooklyn Thursday.
Police say the group of teen and preteen male students in Brownsville pulled down a 12-year-old girl's pants and inappropriately touched her.
The boys are facing multiple charges, including attempted rape. The family's lawyer, Marcel Florestal, also wants the school held accountable.
"That could've been my daughter," he said. "That could have been anybody's daughter."
The victim's grandfather, whose identity News 12 is withholding to protect the victim, says he is concerned about an apparent lack of faculty and safety precautions at the school.
"My child is scared for the rest of her life," said the victim's mother, whose identity is also being withheld.
A spokesperson with the Department of Education tells News 12 Brooklyn that officials are working with the NYPD to investigate what happened. It is not yet clear what they plan to do moving forward.
The girl's mother has transferred her daughter to another school. The girl is also undergoing counselling and therapy.
Editors' note: A previous version of this article incorrectly described the boys as students of Ocean Hill Collegiate School. The article has been updated to reflect the correction.
