Extreme Heat Warning in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday.

Air Quality Alert until 11 p.m. this evening for southern Fairfield and New Haven counties.

WHAT TO KNOW:
Temperatures today climbed into the upper 90s. There is a good chance a few towns may break 100 degrees Friday. The humidity remains at tropical levels. It's making the temperatures feel more like 105-110 degrees. Friday will be an encore performance.
There is a risk of strong-to-severe thunderstorms in the evening hours on Friday and again on Saturday. Stay weather aware. When thunder roars, go indoors! Fireworks shows may be impacted.
Temperature records could be tied or broken on Friday. The last time Bridgeport saw temperatures top 100 degrees was back in 2011.
Not much relief comes our way for the holiday weekend. Independence Day will feel almost as hot. Temperatures will climb into the middle and upper 90s. The high heat will gradually subside a bit for Sunday, but high temperatures will still be up near 90 degrees.
Extreme heat like this can significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for people who work outdoors or engage in outdoor activities. Stay cool and hydrated. Be sure to pay special attention to the elderly and pets. Stay out of the sun and find cooling centers if you do not have air conditioning at home.
