Members of the NYPD's 45th Precinct came out in support of slain Detective Miosotis Familia and other police officers at a vigil Friday night.
The slain officer's three children and a number of relatives from the Dominican Republic also attended. The 45th Precinct also invited officers from all five boroughs and emergency workers from the FDNY.
During the vigil, the 45th Precinct presented the family with a plaque honoring Detective Familia as an eternal honorary member of their precinct.
Familia's oldest daughter, Genesis Villella, spoke to the gathered crowd. It was her second public appearance on the issue after speaking to a massive crowd at her mother's funeral. She praised her mother's dedication to others, and police officers in turn pledged to help the family in her absence.
"...She did make a difference and she's still making an impact," Villella told the crowd.
Familia, who worked in the 46th Precinct, was killed in the line of duty last week.
Fellow officers gunned down the man suspected of shooting her in the head, Alexander Bonds, 34.
Police say he snuck up on her vehicle and fired a single shot at near point blank range before getting into a shootout with responding officers.
