BK marks World AIDS Day with education and remembrance
Today is World AIDS Day, and a health center in Brownsville is recognizing the annual event with both education and remembrance.
The Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center honored those who have died of the disease with a candlelight vigil and the display of a quilt.
At the center, anyone between the ages of 13 and 65 can get tested for HIV free of charge. Those who work at the facility say their goal is to get people tested so they can get treated sooner, in particular adolescents.
In the first half of last year, the city's Health Department says 487 Brooklyn residents were diagnosed with HIV, the most of all five boroughs.
