Some business owners say they are anxiously waiting for a movie theater in Lynbrook to finally open after multiple delays to its opening date.
The Regal 13 in Lynbrook, at a cost of $21 million, has been under construction for more than a year. Ryan Straschnow, who bought Burger Bandit seven months ago, says he was hoping to get some foot traffic from moviegoers.
"It was expected to open up in November, then they said December, then they said January," said Straschnow.
The project's developer says it took longer than expected to get the necessary permits and that recent winter weather has slowed things down.
In a statement to News 12, developer David Blumenfeld says, "We are now on schedule and construction will be completed in March."
Around the corner, Steve Cardi has been selling sports memorabilia for 30 years. He says last year was tough, but he's willing to hold on.
"They waited many years to get that thing done, so we'll wait a couple more months. Hopefully, it will be a good thing," says Cardi.
The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce is trying to remain positive, saying the theater is a key part of the downtown's revival.
The new theater is expected to have 13 screens and seats for 1,600 people.
