A self-proclaimed fascist whom Vice News recently followed during the events in Charlottesville, Virginia is a Suffolk County native.
Christopher Cantwell, a 36-year-old leader in the white supremacist movement, lived on Skylark Lane in Stony Brook, court records show.
The homeowner denied knowing Cantwell when asked by News 12 Long Island. Neighbors say Cantwell grew up in the home and that his parents still live there.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Cantwell is anti-Semitic and hosts a call-in show called Radical Agenda online.
Suffolk County District Court records show Cantwell has a lengthy criminal record that includes DWI, weapons and stolen property convictions.
In the Vice News piece, Cantwell and others spoke forcefully about their hatred for African-Americans, Jewish people and non-white immigrants. Cantwell said he was prepared for violent clashes with counter-protesters.
Following the car attack that killed one protester and injured 19 others, Cantwell showed no regret.
"We showed our rivals we won't be cowed," he said.
Cantwell in the documentary also bragged to the Vice reporter about being armed to the teeth for the rally, and he predicted even more violent clashes and deaths in the future.
Cantwell moved to New Hampshire a few years ago. His former neighbors say police were called to his house several times because of domestic disputes with his parents.
After the Vice News segment ran, Facebook said profiles for Cantwell and his podcast have been removed for violating its policies on hate speech. Cantwell also recorded a YouTube video showing him crying after he realized that law enforcement had issued a warrant for his arrest.
