Investigators questioned a man Monday in connection with the stalking of two young children outside their Crown Heights home that the apparent victims later recanted.
Police say the 58-year-old man voluntarily walked into the 69th Precinct around 11 a.m. He was taken to the 77th Precinct to meet with detectives. A short while later, police said that the children recanted their story.
The man has not been arrested or charged.
Initially, police said two children told them about a series of incidents involving a strange man that they later admitted to making up.
On Oct. 20, in the first of a string of incidents the children apparently fabricated, a man followed an 8-year-old girl and her friend as they walked to their bus stop, police said. The girl's 12-year-old brother accused the same man of trying to pick him up off his bus a few hours later.
The girl later said she saw the suspect taking pictures outside of her home, police said, claiming to have spoken to him. She told them he asked her where she slept inside the house and for details about who else lives there.
The boy told police that the same man again approached him a day later and asked similar questions.
Police even found the man in surveillance video parking a white, four-door sedan in front of the victims' house.
But ultimately, police said the children took back their story and confessed to making the whole thing up.
