P.S. 29 class celebrates National Pollinator Week with class garden
A second-grade class at P.S. 29 in Cobble Hill is celebrating National Pollinator Week by maintaining a garden with some hard work from their teacher.
Tina Aprea-Reres is the teacher leading the charge by spending nights, weekends and early mornings keeping the garden growing vegetables like tomatoes, beans and corn, as well as basil.
The class was joined by National Park Service ranger Dan Meharg and Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, who stressed the importance of programs like Aprea-Reres’.
"By putting it in the schools, we are giving it to our children at an early age,” says Adams. “They're going to grow up to appreciate and not destroy Mother Nature."
Adams also signed the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge, a commitment to help save monarch butterflies and other pollinators.
