State Senate special election approaches in 32nd District
Less than a week remains before the special election to fill the state Senate's 32nd District seat, which Ruben Diaz Sr. vacated to become a city councilman.
Longtime Democratic state Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda is squaring off with Republican Patrick Delices and Reform Party candidate Pamela Stewart-Martinez.
Sepulveda's seat in the 87th Assembly District covers much of the same ground as the Senate district, and he's looking to capitalize on the $4 million in funding for the area's schools to switch legislative houses.
Delices says Bronx voters should break from repeatedly voting for Democrats, who he argues have "not delivered for the people."
"The quality of life is deplorable," he says. "There are high asthma rates and high, high crime."
Stewart-Martinez says she wants to focus on adding more resources to schools in the area, which includes parts of Melrose, Claremont, East Tremont, Soundview, Hunts Point and Parkchester.
The special election is on April 24.
