Officials say two men are facing federal charges in the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer under the George Washington Bridge last weekend.
Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez
, 21, is facing one count of possession of ammunition by someone unlawfully in the country, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Aybar Berroa, 22, is charged with accessory after the fact, which carries a maximum of 7 1/2 years in prison. Both are Dominican nationals.
Federal officers say the suspects shot an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in the face and arm before taking off on a moped Saturday.
News 12 has been told Nunez came to the U.S. illegally in 2023 and was released under the Biden administration policies.
