The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is on the hunt for a man who they say shouted anti-gay comments and then attacked a man with a box cutter in Brooklyn.

Police say the incident took place just before 3 p.m. near the corner of Cranberry and Willow streets on Aug. 1. The suspect walked up to the 21-year-old victim and said homophobic remarks then slashed his hand with a box cutter.

The suspect then ran off toward old Fulton Street and the victim went to the hospital.

The attack came just three days after O'Shae Sibley was stabbed to death in a gas station parking lot in what allegedly was also a homophobic attack.

The NYPD's latest data shows 235 reported hate crimes so far in 2023.
