Brooklyn man dies in custody at Rikers Island

News 12 has been told an officer spotted Armamis Furse, 32, in his cell appearing seriously ill.

A Brooklyn man died while in custody at Rikers Island, days before he was expected to appear in court.

Officials say it happened at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center around 2 a.m. Sunday.

News 12 has been told an officer spotted Armamis Furse, 32, in his cell appearing seriously ill.

Furse was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Furse was set to appear in Kings County court on Dec. 11.

He was facing multiple charges of burglary in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The NYC Department of Corrections commissioner released a statement saying, “The tragic loss will be fully investigated.”

The death marks the 13th inmate death on Rikers Island this year.
