Large sinkhole at Brownsville intersection causes concern for neighbors

A sinkhole in Brownsville is causing concern after a part of an intersection collapsed early Tuesday morning.
Neighbors say they heard a loud boom and when they came outside of their homes, they saw the sinkhole.
The sinkhole takes up a portion of the intersection at Livonia Avenue and Watkins Street. Residents say it continues to get deeper and the asphalt has sunk even more. The rain expected this week could make things even more challenging.
Residents say they've been complaining about problems at this intersection for some time.
Sources say earlier this year, DOT crews noticed that a part of the road was lower than it should be. The Department of Environmental Protection were alerted and and patched up the sinkhole. Crews from both DEP and DOT are on scene trying to figure out next steps.
Crews likely won't be able to start fixing the hole Tuesday, although they may be able to cover it with steel plates to keep the area safe. Officials will then have to figure out what caused the ground to collapse in the first place.
