A mother is making an emotional plea to the public after accidentally losing the cremated remains of her son while preparing to leave Long Island.

Suzanne Soganics said the ashes of her son, Raymond Soganics, were misplaced last Thursday as she finalized the sale of her home in Hauppauge. Raymond died in 2022 at the age of 30.

The ashes were kept inside a quart-sized Ziploc bag along with a memorial card bearing Raymond's photo and name, as well as beads from Beading Hearts, a support group for families who have lost loved ones to overdoses.

"It's all really very special to me," Soganics said. "I don't have him anymore. I don't know where they all are. I have no idea. There are identifiers in the bag with his picture and his name."

Soganics believes the items may have been lost while she was making stops throughout Suffolk County on July 30. She visited her attorney's office on Broadway in Greenlawn, a TD Bank branch on Jericho Turnpike in Commack, and Smithtown Town Hall that day.

According to Soganics, her attorney even searched the sidewalk outside the Greenlawn office, but the search turned up nothing.

Soganics said she is devastated by the thought of leaving Long Island without the only physical connection she has left to her son.

"If you find him, please, I would really appreciate getting that back," she said.
