Six families lost their homes today after an early-morning fire tore through their apartment building at 368 Himrod St.
Residents and firefighters say they believe no one died thanks to the quick response of Ladder Company 124.
"If it wasn't for Ladder 124 doing what they did [the families] would be dead. There's no mistake about that they were trapped," says Chief James Leonard.
Officials say the building is almost completely destroyed. The displaced families are staying with relatives.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Five people, including two firefighters, sustained minor injuries during the fire.
