City officials announced that $500 million has been secured in efforts to boost early childhood education enrollment in New York City boroughs.
This sum, which was previously funded with temporary stimulus dollars, will now become permanent.
According to Mayor Eric Adams, additional funds will be used to support specific needs for young students and their families.
An additional $5 million will be used to maximize enrollment in 3-K and Pre-K programs, and $25 million will be used to support Pre-K students with special needs.
“With this funding, parents across the five boroughs will have the information and access they need to participate in these incredible programs,” Adams said. “Information and access will mean more kids will have a safe place to grow, learn and socialize, and parents don’t have to choose between TV as a babysitter and earning a living.”
The Adams administration has also added $8 million in funding to make the “My City” online portal more accessible for parents seeking to apply for subsidized childcare.
