Community advocates are calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to do something about gun violence in the borough following multiple recent shootings.
In one incident, police say 29-year-old Lionell McClean was shot and killed in front of an apartment complex at 666 Hancock St. around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, another man was shot on Ocean Avenue and two others were shot at the Sumner Houses.
Community advocate Tony Herbert says Mayor de Blasio cannot hide behind low crime statistics anymore because people are still dying in the streets. He says the mayor must make more jobs available for young people in minority communities as a way to keep them busy and out of trouble. He also called for stricter gun laws.
The suspect in the fatal shooting has not been taken into custody, but Herbert says he lives nearby and police know who he is.
