Wednesday is National Package Protection Day, and it follows one of the most successful online shopping seasons ever.
Officials offered tips for those who are afraid their Cyber Monday deals are at risk of being stolen.
Crown Heights Community Affairs Officer Kelvin Vidal says the area has seen an uptick in packages being stolen.
Vidal advises shoppers who order packages from Amazon to sign up for an Amazon Locker, which are located at several locations. FedEx and UPS have similar options called drop box locations and guarantee that packages are safe from thieves.
Also, the NYPD suggests requiring a signature or using a friend or neighbor who will be home and who can keep an eye on packages as they arrive. They say to always make sure to place insurance on packages, especially if they're costly.
