The families of two victims killed by police officers held a basketball tournament Saturday in their memory.

Shantel Davis was 23 when she was fatally shot in East Flatbush in 2012, and Kimani Gray was 16 when she was killed less than a year later just blocks away. 

The Hoops for Justice basketball tournament seeks to bring together East Flatbush youth and residents while honoring the lives of Gray and Davis.

"Besides the fact that it's in memory of my sister and Kimani, it's just for youth to keep making sure that they are active," says Natasha Duncan, a family member of one of the victims. "Find something to do. Stay off the streets."

The families say the basketball tournament is an attempt to turn tragedy into a force for positive change.
