A Bay Ridge senior citizens center is shutting its doors earlier than expected, leaving many residents without recreational options. The center, located inside St. John's Church, was scheduled to close June 30, but will instead close next week. Workers say the facility has provided meals and activities for more than 35 years, but the city's Department for the Aging says the center has exhausted its budget, was underserving seniors and received a poor rating. Department officials say they will help transition seniors to nearby centers.
