It continues to be a frigid night across Long Island. This is leading to that type of cold that can just simply be painful when you step outside with wind chills in the single digits to mid-teens at best overnight.
At least the strong wind is becoming lighter throughout the overnight hours, but with actual air temperatures dropping into the upper teens, even a lighter breeze into Friday morning can still make it feel like the upper single digits to low teens.
Tonight's full moon is the last of 2025 and also our next supermoon which means it appears slightly brighter and larger than a typical full moon. Read more about it here. Feel free to tag myself and News 12 Long Island on social media in any photos you get!
Friday afternoon will feel slightly better, but still cold.
At any point after 9 a.m. Friday, there can be a few spotty light snow showers and flurries. While a slippery spot with a trace of snow cannot be ruled out, most of Long Island is not expected to see snow on the ground as dry air helps to keep most of that snow suppressed well south of Long Island.
Temperatures should increase a little later Friday night into Saturday morning. A few flurries or even raindrops will continue to be possible.
Other than a brief rain shower on Saturday, most of the weekend looks dry.
Next week, there will be multiple chances for showers. Most look to be in the form of rain, but there is the chance for some snow showers mixing in, especially earlier in the week.
Stay with News 12 through the weekend for updates on that and have a great night - stay warm!
