This year's Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights may look different due to COVID-19, but the zoo has managed to continue its seasonal tradition in a safe way.

One of the brightest signs that the holidays are around the corner was lit up on Tuesday.

Max Pulsinelli, the executive director of communications at the Bronx Zoo, says bringing back the holiday cheer to New York City safely was the goal.

"We have spread out the footprint, we have five lantern safaris instead of one like last year. That's to accommodate social distancing protocols and keep everyone safe," he says. "It is an outdoor experience, a safe place to celebrate the holidays and brings a sense of normalcy this time of year. New York is the holiday capital of the world and New Yorkers deserve a little normalcy."

Animal lanterns line walkways, covering a larger area of the zoo than before. This allows people to spread out and follow the strict COVID-19 guidelines in place while still enjoying the view.

People have come from near and far looking an outdoor venue to go to like this one. Some say it's the perfect place to keep a distance from one another while ringing in the holiday spirit.
