Borough officials say more than 200 kids are being given the chance to attend summer camp for free through a program called Camp Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz says the program has been made possible completely through donations. The program spends approximately $500 per camper, according to Markowitz.
Participants can choose from a dozen camps in the tri-state area.
Markowitz says the program needs to expand.
?We raise a nice amount of money, but the truth is we got thousands of kids that want a summer experience,? he said. ?And for those kids, I hope next year we do even better.?
