(12/04/07) BROOKLYN ? According to the results of a traffic safety study, pedestrians and bicyclists may want to be extra careful when crossing the street.
The group Transportation Alternatives says the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue is one of the most dangerous in Brooklyn and second in New York City when it comes to most pedestrian crashes. The organization compiled 11 years of data of all bicycle and pedestrian crashes at every intersection in the city to make the list.
Transportation Alternatives says there are steps the city can take to make the intersections safer to cross like narrowing lanes and giving pedestrians extra time to cross.
The DOT says it has taken steps over the years to make streets safer.
