A Brooklyn man has been indicted for robbing and assaulting the owner of a Harlem funeral home, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.
Court documents and statements show that Luis Ortega, 50, met up with another person outside of the Daniels Wilhelmina Funeral Home on West 131st Street on Feb. 17 around 3 p.m. Ortega stayed outside while the other person entered the funeral home, pretending to inquire about funeral arrangements for his brother.
Then, Ortega entered the funeral home, they both put on masks and repeatedly punched the 66-year-old owner before taking him to the back room and demanding money. Ortega’s accomplice also had a machete.
Ortega took the victim’s computer, phone and wallet. He was arrested three weeks later on March 5 in the Bronx.
Ortega is facing many charges including robbery, assault and criminal possession. His accomplice has not been caught.
