While the heat wave is expected to soon break, the mayor is urging Brooklyn residents to continue to conserve power.
The Office of Emergency Management says several wastewater plants have been shut down, including a Coney Island facility. Several museums and botanical gardens are also closed to conserve energy.
A man in his early 30s reportedly died due to the heat.
