A Brooklyn senator facing criminal charges claimed a victory in the primary elections.
Sen. John Sampson, a 17-year incumbent, was able to hold on to about 55 percent of votes in the 19th District.
Sampson beat out Dell Smitherman, who was backed by Mayor Bill de Blasio, but only received about 30 percent of voter support. Sean Henry received 9 percent and Elias Weir held on to 4 percent.
The senator is accused of embezzling $440,000 from escrow accounts on foreclosure sales and using it to help fund his failed attempt to became a Brooklyn district attorney. Sampson is set to go to trial next year.
In other big election news for Brooklyn, the Barrons are keeping it in the family, at least when it comes to the 60th Assembly District seat. Charles Barron will take over the seat that was previously held by his wife, Inez Barron, who continues to hold his former spot in the City Council.
