The Mount Ararat senior center is open once again after closing due to budget cuts.
The closure of the center impacted an estimated 300 seniors.
On Wednesday some of those seniors celebrated the reopening of their local hang out.
Council member Darlene Mealy and Speaker Adrienne Adams, who helped save nearly $500,000 for the site joined in on the festivities.
Sonia Smith and a few other Brownsville residents got together back in May to bring this senior community staple back.
“We wrote letters to Mayor Adam Jeffries and a couple of other people to get a response because we need this senior center and we needed somebody to invest in us,” said Smith.
The seniors say they're happy to be able to once again have somewhere to hang out and keep their minds sharp.
