The community of Canarsie came together Saturday to denounce gun violence and call for action after an 18-year-old was shot and killed several weeks ago.
Outside of the Bayview Houses, residents called for fully funded anti-gun violence initiatives after Jamere Jones was shot in the back at the building in October.
The group is remembering Jones and all young people who died due to gun violence. They are demanding a "cure violence" site that would be funded by the 69th Precinct.
The Cure Violence Initiative is part of the city's anti-gun violence crisis management system, which has centers in 17 of the city's police precincts.
City data shows that the crisis management system has contributed to a 40% reduction in shootings.
