Residents and commuters in Canarsie were surprised after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake left New Yorkers with a rocky start to their day.

"I was sitting here in the chair and my stylists was getting my hair ready and I felt a shake and we thought it was a train at first," said one Canarsie resident. "We weren't sure what was going on. I looked left and right and then I said it might've been an earthquake."

One father says he was at home brushing his teeth when he noticed the mirror shaking, and he immediately worked to make sure his family was safe.

"It reminded me of 2011 because in 2011 we had a similar event, but I think this one was worse," said the father.
