The City of Newark held a food-drive thru event for residents Wednesday.
People who attended were able to drive up, grab what they needed and head out.
"Newark is really…it's not a food desert now,” said Amiri Baraka Jr., chief of staff to Newark's mayor. “But we're trying to get better, and a lot of places don't have the food, and a lot of the people don't have the money to provide for their families to get food with inflation and the rising price of gas. Folks enjoy and they need this. This is like a necessity now to give folks some food."
Organizers say they will be adding more food drives during the rest of the year.
