Commissioner Bill Bratton says the NYPD reads possible terrorist communication on a daily basis.

In a new interview, Bratton was asked how the city is preparing to stop potential attacks from homegrown terrorists inspired by the Islamic State. Bratton responded by saying the NYPD is looking through thousands of messages each day from the terror group ISIS sent to people around the world. 

Speaking on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Bratton also hinted that ISIS may convince al-Qaida terrorists to step up new attacks.

Deputy Commissioner John Miller appeared on the show with Bratton and explained how law enforcement is hitting roadblocks when investigating terror leads because of the use of encrypted apps. 

He says terrorists have used apps but officials cannot read them, even with a court order from a federal judge.
