This Saturday, Coney Island Beach and beaches all across New York City will officially open for the summer season.
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and city Parks Department Commissioner Sue Donoghue helped lead other local leaders in the official ribbon-cutting for the upcoming 100th anniversary season of the Coney Island Boardwalk.
Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day starting Saturday. This comes as Donoghue told the City Council that they’ve only hired about one-third of the lifeguards they need to open all city pools and beaches this summer.
The Parks Department is working on other safety features, such as free sunblock outside restrooms at all city parks this summer.
