Coney Island Hospital opened its newest expansion Wednesday.
Coney Island Hospital officials say the new critical care room will help benefit patients and ultimately save lives.
Dr. Mark Kindschuh says he will be able to use his experience and the new technology of the critical care room inside the emergency department at the hospital.
Doctors say the new critical care room will help ease the pressure in the hospital's emergency room, which handled close to 90,000 visits last year.
In the critical care room, doctors say they will be able to treat up to two patients at the same time. Patients in the room will be those with serious and life-threatening injuries and illnesses.
Recently, Coney Island Hospital had been hit with a malpractice lawsuit, but the CEO says the new project is not related to those incidents.
