Coney Island business owners struggled through the weekend after city officials closed beaches to swimmers because of dangerous rip currents.
Dennis Corines, who owns Denny's Delight in Coney Island, says business was down at least 75 percent this weekend. The city closed the beaches to swimmers both Saturday and Sunday due to strong currents and rough waters caused by Hurricane Bill.
Corines and other business owners say the summer has already been a tough one because people seem to be spending less money due to the economy. He hopes Labor Day weekend will be warm enough to make up for the lost business.
