A Florida congresswoman is standing up for transgender Americans in a recent ad campaign.
According to published reports, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Miami Republican, and her husband Dexter Lehtinen, who served as the top federal prosecutor, realized they needed to do something after their son came out as transgender.
The well-known conservative couple launched a service announcement in honor of their son who was born a female.
The congresswoman promotes her bilingual efforts in the ad by the group "save," south Florida's leading LGBT rights group.
The couple says they're hopeful the campaign will help the estimated 60 percent of young transgender people in the state who are rejected by their family.
